When Tamazha Entered the Building...
The Farm team has been blessed with talented community members over the years but our staff and the community are better off because Tamazha Pilson came on as an intern in 2018. This Accabee resident and College of Charleston senior immediately shadowed the different team members, studied excerpts from Farming While Black, assisted with grant writing, and stepped up with the crew to make the first-ever SC Black Farmers Conference a huge success!
It was a no-brainer to offer her the Store Manager position a few months later. I knew we made the right decision watching the ease, humor and dignity with which she greeted and served our customers.
Fresh Future Farm's mutual aid and food justice paths are clearer thanks to Tamazha's contributions:
Increased procurement of farm store inventory from Black and LGBTQ+ vendors
Devised and maintained COVID-safe operations plan during the pandemic
Proposed the #freshfuturefriday online learning
Developed a fair paid family leave plan for the farm team
Elected Secretary of the SC Black Farmers Coalition
Served as a Selection Committee member for the Braiding Seeds Fellowship
Introduced an important public health online learning module to our list of classes (soon to be available on Patreon)
