Stephanie was born in Charleston and raised between Charleston SC and Wilmington NC. She's a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Grandmother and great-grandmother were both sharecroppers and independent Black farmers. As a child, Stephanie watched her grandmother tend to an extravagant garden in her backyard in the Murray Hill community on Atlas Avenue. She always had a love for agriculture and admiration for Black farmers. Stephanie understands that true freedom comes with access to sustainability, land, and the ability to feed yourself and your community. Stephanie is mom to a very active toddler and now tends to her own backyard garden with the hopes her daughter Xolani will one day understand the importance of growing your own food.
